Frequently Asked Questions
Answers about Aurum products, ingredients, storage, certifications, shipping, ordering and wholesale supply. Our current range is made from Tunisian Deglet Noor dates, and this page will grow with the Aurum range.
Products & ingredients
What products does Aurum currently sell?
Our current range uses Tunisian Deglet Noor dates in three forms: soft pitted dates, smooth date paste and finely milled date sugar. You can compare all three in our dates and date products collection.
What kind of dates does Aurum sell?
We use Tunisian Deglet Noor dates selected for their soft, tender texture and clean honey-caramel flavour. They are ideal for snacking, baking and blending.
What is the difference between Deglet Noor and Medjool dates?
Medjool dates are generally larger, with a rich caramel sweetness. Deglet Noor dates are smaller and more delicate, with a lighter honey-caramel flavour. Our Deglet Noor dates are selected for a soft, tender texture. Read our detailed Deglet Noor versus Medjool guide.
Where are Aurum dates grown, processed and packed?
Our dates are grown and prepared at our facility in Tunisia, where they are pitted, dried, graded and bulk-packed for export. The Aurum retail range is then packed in Australia and dispatched from NSW, with batch traceability throughout.
Is anything added to your dates, paste or date sugar?
Our current Deglet Noor range is made entirely from dates. The pitted dates, date paste and date sugar contain no added sugar, syrups, oils, sulphites or preservatives. Always check the product label for the most current ingredient and allergen information as our range expands.
Storage & freshness
How should I store pitted dates in Australia?
Keep the pouch sealed in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Refrigeration is recommended after opening and is especially useful during hot Australian weather because it helps the dates retain their texture.
How should I store date paste and date sugar?
Refrigerate date paste after opening and keep it tightly sealed. Store date sugar in a cool, dry place and reseal the pouch after every use to protect it from moisture.
How long do date products last?
Use the best-before date printed on your pouch as your guide. Storage conditions and whether the pack has been opened can affect freshness, so follow the storage instructions on the product label.
Can I freeze pitted dates?
Yes. Seal the dates in an airtight container or freezer-safe bag and thaw the amount you need at room temperature. For best quality, freeze them while they are still fresh and within the labelled best-before period.
My dates have white spots. Are they still safe to eat?
Dry, crystalline white patches can be sugar bloom, which happens when natural fruit sugars move to the surface. Do not eat dates that look fuzzy, have unusual discolouration or smell fermented or unpleasant. If you are uncertain, stop using the product and contact us with a photo and the batch details.
Why is an occasional date firmer or drier?
Our Deglet Noor dates are selected for a soft, tender texture. Because dates are natural fruit, an occasional piece may be slightly firmer or drier than the rest of the pouch.
Can pitted dates still contain a stone or fragment?
Although our dates are pitted with care, an occasional stone or fragment can remain in any pitted fruit. Check the dates before biting, blending or serving them to children.
Dietary information & certification
Are Aurum date products Halal and Kosher certified?
Our current Tunisian date range is produced under Halal and Kosher certification. The facility also holds BRCGS and IFS Food certification. Certification documents are available on request, and business customers can find more information on our wholesale and bulk page.
Are your current date products vegan and gluten free?
Our current pitted dates, date paste and date sugar are made only from dates and contain no animal-derived ingredients. Their nutrition panels report gluten as nil detected. Always read the current label, particularly as new product ranges are introduced.
Where can I find ingredient and allergen information?
Ingredient and nutrition information appears on each product page and on the pouch. If you are managing a food allergy or intolerance, rely on the current label and contact us before ordering if you need further information.
Can people with diabetes eat dates?
Dates contain naturally occurring sugars. Whether they are suitable for you—and an appropriate portion—depends on your individual health needs. Please ask your GP, accredited practising dietitian or diabetes educator for personal advice.
Using our products
How do I substitute date sugar for regular sugar?
Aurum Date Sugar can replace brown or white sugar 1:1 in many baked recipes. Because it is whole ground fruit and retains fibre, it will not fully dissolve in tea or coffee. See the date sugar product page and our date sugar comparison guide for practical guidance.
What can I use date paste for?
Use date paste to add sweetness and binding to energy balls, brownies, sticky toffee pudding, smoothies, sauces, dressings and marinades. It can also be spread on toast or stirred through yoghurt and oats. Explore our date recipes for tested ideas.
Can I make date paste from pitted dates?
Yes. Soak pitted dates in warm water until softened, drain them and blend until smooth, adding a small amount of water only if needed. Alternatively, our ready-made date paste is smooth and ready to use.
Where can I find recipes using dates, date sugar and date paste?
Visit From Our Kitchen for energy balls, cookies, brownies, overnight oats, banana loaf, granola and desserts made with Aurum products.
